History: Emile Sick purchased the Seattle Indians in 1938, re-named them after his Rainier Brewery. The ‘61 Suds dominated the Pacific Coast League until several stars were promoted to the Boston Red Sox late in the season and the Rainiers fell to a third-place finish. Rainiers manager and Red Sox great Johnny Pesky (#7) would later call his ‘61 team the greatest ballclub he had ever been a part of at any level of the sport.

History: The 1962 Michigan Wolverines baseball team earned their second College World Series Championship in two tries when they defeated the Santa Clara Broncos by a score of 5-4 in a 15 inning thriller in the deciding game at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. History: Representing Columbus, Ohio, as the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the '61 Jets won 94 games to claim the International League pennant. Leading the way for the Jets was a young first baseman Donn Clendenon, who hit 22 home runs during the campaign. Eight years later, while playing with the 1969 New York “Amazin’ Mets”, Clendenon would hit three home runs in a five-game World Series victory against the Baltimore Orioles, winning the World Series MVP award.
